1 cup warm water
1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups all purpose white flour
½ cup milled flax seed or flax seed flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons vegetable oil
3 tablespoons honey
1 package active yeast
In a large bowl, mix together flax seed, salt, whole wheat and white flour and set aside. Take one cup of warm water and dissolve yeast in it. Add one half of yeast and water to flour mixture. Add honey, vegetable oil and stir. Add remaining dissolved yeast and stir together. Turn out on a well floured surface and knead for ten minutes or until the dough comes together and changes texture in your hands. Allow to rise until dough is doubled in size. Punch down, lightly knead and form into a bread shape. Place dough on oiled baking sheet and allow bread to rise until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and position bread in middle of the oven. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until bread is lightly browned. Bread is done when bottom of the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
