3 ¼ cups flour
¾ cup sugar
½ teaspoon ground allspice
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 package Active Yeast (0.25 ounces)
1 cup warm water
1 beaten egg
¾ cup softened butter or soy margarine
¾ cup milk or soy milk
½ cup currants
½ cup raisins
1/3 cup citron
Preheat oven to and oil a baking sheet. Dissolve yeast with 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, water and cooled milk. Add enough flour to make a thin batter and beat until smooth. Allow to rise for 2 hours. In a separate bowl, cream remaining sugar and butter, add beaten egg. Add remaining ingredients and sugar mixture to the thin batter. Allow to rise 2 to 2 ½ hours. Punch down dough, form into round bread loaf shape and place on baking sheet. Allow to rise another 1 ½ to 2 hours before baking in a 375 degree oven. Bake 30 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
