5 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium chopped onion
2 chopped garlic cloves
2 ground cloves
2 bay leaves
1 inch cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon coriander
2 quartered tomatoes
Salt to taste
2 medium cubed potatoes, cubed
1/2 cup green peas
1 1/4 cup water or vegetable broth
Chopped cilantro
Heat vegetable oil and saute onion and garlic in large pot over medium heat till golden. Add cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon and stir fry for 2 minutes. Mix garam masala, chili powder, turmeric, coriander, tomatoes and salt into sautéed onions mixture. Pour in vegetable broth, add potatoes and peas and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover the pan and simmer while stirring periodically. Cook for 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are done. Garnish with cilantro leaves and serve warm.
